Wind is proud to announce its investment in Cosma, a deeptech startup building the underwater imaging infrastructure of the future.
Cosma is developing a new generation of autonomous underwater drones designed to capture high-resolution, scalable, and actionable data from the seafloor. The company has just closed a €2.5M seed round, co-led by Wind and Ternel, with support from 50 Partners, Caisse d’Épargne Côte d’Azur, and Ifremer.
WHY WE INVESTED ?
Cosma is tackling a major data blind spot: the deep sea. Today, we know more about the surface of Mars than we do about much of our own oceans. Cosma is changing that—by developing scalable, autonomous underwater drones equipped with a breakthrough imaging system.
Their platform enables high-resolution 3D photogrammetry, capturing up to 100,000 images per hectare of seabed. Combined with cutting-edge algorithms, Cosma can detect and map habitats, species, and underwater infrastructure—offering an unprecedented view of the seafloor.
Their ambition? To become the “Google Maps of the seafloor”, unlocking crucial data for renewable energy site planning, coastal and subsea infrastructure resilience, marine biodiversity conservation and climate adaptation strategies.
At Wind, we invest in climate tech pioneers building tangible, high-impact solutions to real-world challenges. Cosma fits that vision perfectly. Their work enables better decisions for coastal resilience, energy transition, and ecosystem protection—areas at the heart of our climate adaptation thesis.
WHY IT MATTERS ?
Cosma is already working with major players including RWE, Egis, WWF, and the French Navy—a strong signal of both the technical maturity and strategic relevance of their work. At Wind, we’re especially excited by how Cosma blends scientific innovation, national sovereignty, and climate impact into one powerful mission.
With this new round of funding, Cosma will have the capacity to industrialize its underwater drone fleet, scale its AI and data analytics infrastructure and expand across Europe, serving both public and private sector clients
Congratulations to CEO Frédéric Mittaine and the entire Cosma team. We’re proud to support your journey and can’t wait to see what’s next !
